BENEFITS OF OUR UNION

In today's rapidly evolving employment landscape, people often seek stability, security, and a voice in their workplace. Local unions serve as instrumental pillars in achieving these aspirations, offering a structured platform for workers to collectively advocate for their rights and interests. Whether you are a seasoned professional or new to the workforce, understanding the advantages of union membership is essential for making informed career decisions.

At Local 1869, we are considered a Salary Bargaining Unit and therefore are under the National Salary Agreement. However, there are also several benefits that have been negotiated with our employer in our local contract as well.

Preserving Members’ Interests

Weighted Input on Salary Merits and Profit Sharing

Management provides the same compensation planning guidelines to our Chairperson as they do to pay planners. TeamGM Performance Pay funds for represented salaried employees are allocated to bargaining units in the same manner as similarly situated non-represented employees. Funds allocated this way will not be spent outside of the bargaining unit.

  • Every dollar for Performance Pay goes to our members - not to someone else’s bonus!

  • Members are the highest paid in our classifications

Job Security & Protection

Monthly Management Meetings

Our Local leadership meets monthly with Management to ensure the longevity and security of our employment. Through those meetings, and if necessary the grievance process, the Leadership is able to advocate for our members and their employment interests. This includes:

  • Ensuring full utilization of bargaining unit employees

  • Reviewing current work sourcing

  • Protecting the continued viability of our membership (maintaining our headcount for over 30+ years)

  • Seeking areas of development in new technologies

  • Assessing training needs and providing education opportunities

Working Conditions & Expectations

Our contract specifies that our standard work week is maintained at 40 hrs/week. Anything above 40 hrs is considered overtime. Members receive premium overtime compensation (1.5x normal pay rate). We are also able to address ergonomic and environmental concerns in our workplace
